A word we seem to be hearing more and more, something I have been thinking about since my daughter had surgery on her foot in order to create an arch that was not present. The surgery itself was short, a day surgery, but the healing process is much longer and takes a lot of patience. She is now on week 11 of recovery and she is slowly able to be herself again. She is resilient. We are all resilient, but as adults who go through tough times, our resilience can fade. Like the legal process, the recovery time after surgery is often a slow process and one can feel like they will never return to being who they once were. The truth is, you will. You will exercise your resilience throughout the process and embrace the support you have because eventually, the legal battle (the surgery) will be over and the recovery (healing) will begin. You may not return to the person you once were (the child without an arch before surgery), but a new person who has overcome the difficulties of the situation and a stronger person because of it.
